Western Cape Government Broadband Initiative – school survey

The Western Cape Government has signed an agreement with Neotel and the State

Information Technology Agency (SITA) to provide access to broadband across the province.  The WCED will work with schools and service providers to connect schools over a two to three-year period.

From September 2014, a Centre for e-Innovation (CEI) representative will make appointments with schools to discuss how best to connect schools to the WAN.

This will involve Neotel and the Centre for e-Innovation (CEI) in the Department of the Premier conducting an on-site survey to establish, for example, how to install a fibre-optic cable from the boundary of the school to a designated point within the school.

We would appreciate it greatly if you could assist in the following ways:

HPV Vaccine for all Grade 4 Girls

Subject: Human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine information sheets and consent forms

1. The introduction of the Human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine is a major public health milestone for South Africa. The HPV vaccination programme aims to protect girls against cancer of the cervix (CaCx). Every year, over 5 743 women are diagnosed with cervical cancer and a further 3 027 die from related complications. The availability of an effective vaccine against the most prevalent high risk types of HPV has made it possible to protect women against cervical cancer, which is currently the most common cancer among women in South Africa.

2. The HPV vaccine should be given before becoming sexually active or exposed to the HPV infection. Therefore, it is recommended for use in girls aged 9 to 15.

Education Law for School Managers

On Saturday 8 February a number of principals and deputies of Circuit Two attended the Aspects of Education Law for School Principals workshop.  This workshop was arranged by Mr Daries (IMG).  Mr Jimmy Slingers presented the workshop with his usual flair and expertise.  Judging by the comments from principals on the day, as well as at the Principals' Meeting held on 13 February at the Zonnebloem Estate, it was well received and much appreciated.  In fact those who couldn't attend, requested a second workshop, which should ideally include other SMT members.

Here are some photos (which were taken by Mr Slingers himself):
